Haverford Tops Red Devils in Key Conference Match-Up

(Haverford, Pa.) - Dickinson women's lacrosse (7-4, 2-2 CC) suffered its second Centennial Conference setback of the season after a physical battle with Haverford (6-5, 2-2 CC) on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field. The 'Fords

The Red Devils raced to a quick 1-0 advantage after the opening draw thanks to first year Maddie Siebold's (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) 20th goal of the year on rocket shot just 35 seconds into the game.

Haverford quickly grabbed momentum, scoring three goals in three minutes to take a 3-1 lead.

Dickinson senior midfielder Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) kept the Red Devil pace going with a free-position goal at 24:22 to make it 3-2.

After an ensuing Haverford score, senior attacker Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) fired in her 14th of the season to swap another one goal lead at 4-3.

Then, Haverford's Diana Perry surged ahead for the spotlight. The Ford's junior midfielder exploded for two goals to close the opening half, capping a hat trick in the first frame.

Out of the break, Perry struck again for her fourth goal, one minute and 19 seconds into the second half.

Over the next five minutes, Coach Lowry's defense adjusted accordingly and enabled Dickinson to get out in transition.

Sophomore attacker Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) broke the scoring silence with a well-placed free position shot to bring Dickinson back within three at 7-4.

But, that's the closest run the Red Devils put together. Even though Dickinson owned 13-24 draw controls, offensive pace was plagued by 20 turnovers to Haverford's 14.

With just under fourteen minutes remaining, Haverford strung together another three goal spurt, featuring Perry's fifth of the day at 9:17 to take the 11-5 lead.

The Fords defense proved too strong, riding high from 8 big saves by senior Shannon Horn.

Dickinson's JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) and Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) split time in the cage. Auerbackh stopped six Haverford shots and Cuddihy turned away four.

Back and forth action was bruising, as both teams combined for 8 yellow cards (Dickinson 6, Haverford 2).

Siebold led the Red Devil offensive fire once again with her fifth hat-trick of the season. O'Brien turned in the last goal of the game to make it an even two goals on the afternoon. Morrissey and Haglund each finished with one goal.

Dickinson takes a break from Centennial Conference action as they hit the road and take on Susquehanna this Wednesday evening. Opening draw is set for 7:00 pm in Selinsgrove, Pa.
