Parrotta Scores 100th in Overtime Loss to Keuka

Cazenovia, N.Y. For the second straight year, the Keuka College Storm battled back in overtime to defeat the Cazenovia College women's lacrosse team. Winning 8-9 over the Wildcats, in the extra stanza, on Sat., April 20, 2005, Keuka handed the Wildcats an 11-12 loss in Cazenovia, N.Y. on sat., April 29, just over a year later. With the loss Cazenovia moves to 1-10 on the year.

Cazenovia jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, with 14:00 left to play in the first half, on a Cali Parrotta ('06, Clay, N.Y. / Cicero North Syracuse HS) free-position shot and goal. The goal, a milestone achievement for Parrotta and the Wildcats' program, was Parotta's hundredth of her career. Parrotta is the first women's lacrosse player in the history of the women's lacrosse program to break the 100-goal plateau.

Exchanging 13 different lead-changes or ties in the game, the two teams continued to trade goals deep into the second half.

Cazenovia looked like it would take the final lead of the game, at the end of regulation, when Parrotta scored two back-to-back goals to bring the score to 9-8. However, it was Keuka's Afton Hartung that would score the game equalizer, at the 4:29 mark of the second half, which forced the game into overtime knotted 9-9.

The Wildcats struck first in overtime when Jaclyn Capocefalo ('07, East Syracuse, N.Y. / Onondaga CC) scored on a free-position shot with 2:17 remaining in the first of the two 3-minute overtime periods. Bridget Quinlan and Brenna Leach would score the next two goals to put the Storm back up 10-11. Cazenovia managed to equalize the goals on an Alexandria Huban ('09, New Woodstock, N.Y. / Shaker HS) goal with 0:01 left before the OT break.

Scoreless over the first 2:54 of the second 3-minute OT session, the Storms' Suzann Gushue put the game away with a goal at the 0:06 mark.

Huban finished the game with a team-high four-goal effort on six shots. Parrotta, who has one game remaining in her Cazenovia career, now has 102 career goals for the Wildcats.

The women's lacrosse team will travel to Mount St. Vincent College for the final game of its 2006 schedule. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
