Wheeling Jesuit Defeats Rollins

WHEELING, W.Va. Wheeling Jesuit notched a sound 16-6 non-conference win over a much-touted Rollins (Fla.) team on Sunday on Bishop Schmitt Field.

The Cardinals rebound from their first loss of the season and improve to 7-1 on the season; the first under head coach Kevin Dugan.

WJU scored early and often against the Tars, getting on the board with their first goal less than a minute into the game. Bryce Brochu and Tyler Buchan continued their stellar play this year, netting four goals a-piece to lead the Cards in scoring. Brochu kept the pressure on all day, taking 10 shots and Buchan took eight cracks at the goal as well.

Landon DelPrince added a pair of goals as the only other Cardinal to score more than once for WJU. All told, nine different Cards scored, leading to the 16-6 win.

Joe Amsler served nearly the whole game in-goal for WJU, taking eight saves and only allowing across six goals.

The Cardinals also showed great ball control, both in the air and on the ground. WJU beat the physical Tars to a 25-17 ground ball count, and successfully completed each of their 18 clearing opportunities.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they engage in a mid-week tussle against the Battlers from Alderson Broaddus. Face off is set for 7:00 pm under the lights at Bishop Schmitt Field.
