Gators Top Chestnut Hill for 11th Straight AWCC Title

BALTIMORE – College of Notre Dame of Maryland set the tone from the opening 10 seconds of its 17-7 victory over Chestnut Hill College Sunday afternoon in the 2006 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Championship Game at Notre Dame's Alumnae Field.

The title was Notre Dame's 11th-straight AWCC Championship. The Gators have never lost an AWCC game, winning 63-consecutive regular-season and tournament games.

Junior midfielder Tina Money (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's County High School) controlled the opening draw out of midair, then raced to goal and scored nine seconds in the game.

Money controlled the ensuing draw, one of her career-high 10 on the day, and the Gators (12-4) scored their second goal of the game just 35 seconds into the contest on a free-position goal by sophomore attacker Laura Schwarz (Pylesville, Md./North Harford High School).

Sophomore midfielder Anne Shippen (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country Day School) scored with 25:37 to go in the first half to give Notre Dame a 3-0 advantage.

The Griffins (4-11) got on the board with 24:37 left on a free-position shot by freshman attacker Katie Donovan (Conshohocken, Pa./Archbishop Carroll High School) to cut the lead to 3-1.

Notre Dame, however, reeled off three-straight goals over a span of four minutes, and the Gators would never lead by less than five.

Shippen led all players with six goals, while junior midfielder Sara Breidenbaugh (Glen Arm, Md./Perry Hall High School) added five for the Gators.

Money scored three goals, and she led all players with 10 draw controls and eight caused turnovers.

Donovan led the Griffins with four goals.
