Assessments of players are typically quite subjective. On the other hand, looking at traditional individual player statistics in isolation can be misleading. Larry Feldman, who started and still maintains the computer ratings program, has developed statistics-based ratings of players. They take teams' strength of schedule into account so that a player on a top team facing a tough group of opponents isn't disadvantaged relative to a player on a lesser team whose opponents are on average much weaker.
