Late Flurry Gives Centenary Second Straight Win

ROSEMONT, Pa. - Centenary broke open a tie game with three straight goals during the final 8:08 and defeated Rosemont 14-11 for its second consecutive CSAC victory on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored six goals and dished out a pair of assists, while freshman Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) added four goals and sophomore Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) found the back of the net three times.

Voelkner's free-position, man-up goal with 8:08 to play in the second half gave Centenary a lead that it would not relinquish.

Centenary forced Rosemont turnovers during each of the Ravens' final four possessions and Schmitt added a pair of insurance tallies during the final four minutes to help secure the victory.

Prior to the Cyclones taking control late, the teams had traded scores for much of the game. The contest featured eight tied scores throughout.

Kerry Hars put Rosemont on the board first, but Sutko and Voelkner combined for three consecutive scores in a 93-second span to give Centenary a 3-1 lead. Gina Ragone tallied two-straight goals to tie the game and the teams traded goals until Lauren Lombardo found the back of the net with 11 seconds left in the half to give the Ravens a 6-5 edge at the break.

Rosemont took a 9-7 lead, but Schmitt ignited a run of three-straight Cyclone goals that helped Centenary retake the lead. Jennifer South knotted the score at 11-11, but that would be the final tie score of the game as Voelkner's goal two minutes later started the Cyclones' late run.

Centenary outshot Rosemont 38-22 and collected 34 ground balls, compared to 25 for the Ravens. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Wisniewski (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made five stops in net to earn her second win.

South scored four goals, while net minder Nia Hall blocked 18 shots to lead the Ravens.

Centenary can extend its winning streak to three game on Saturday at Cedar Crest (1:00 pm).
