Gannon Falls Short Against No. 14 West Chester

ERIE, Pa. - No. 14 West Chester out-scored Gannon 11-2 during the first half and rolled to a 16-4 victory in PSAC action Wednesday afternoon at a sunny Gannon University Field.

Gannon didn't score its first goal until 12:01 had passed, getting a score from Christine Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) off an assist from Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo). The goal cut the deficit to 3-1, but was the calm before the storm.

West Chester answered with five consecutive goals to assume an 8-1 lead with 6:42 left in the first half. After Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) ended another Gannon scoring drought of 13:49, the Golden Rams ended the half with three more goals. Jordan Heidelbaugh's tally with 24 seconds remaining pushed the visitors into halftime with an 11-2 advantage.

A running clock went into effect after another West Chester strike 42 seconds into the second half. The Gannon scoring was completed by a Stevie Lombardoni (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) unassisted goal at the 26:53 mark and Neagle's score on a free-position shot with 4:47 remaining.

Gannon dropped to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC with Wednesday's setback. West Chester, ranked 14th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 15 Poll, improved to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in conference action. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, April 12 at rival Mercyhurst. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
