Golden Bears Earn First PSAC Win at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Kutztown never trailed on Wednesday and led by as many as five goals during the first half in a 13-10 victory at Millersville, marking KU's first PSAC win of the season.

The Golden Bears (3-8, 1-6 PSAC) had six different goal scorers and were led by a pair of attackers. Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and Taylor Sandin (Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck) each notched hat-tricks in the first half against the Marauders (5-6, 1-5). Spencer finished with a game-high five goals as Sandin finished with three.

Spencer's five goals improved her season total to 26, a career-high. She has scored 64 goals in three seasons in the Maroon and Gold and ranks seventh in school history. Sandin has scored 14 goals this season, an improvement by 10 from her freshman campaign in 2013.

Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) notched a multi-goal game with two on Wednesday, as Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) and Kelli Serpi (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Township) also scored for Kutztown.

In goal, senior JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) picked up the victory with 14 saves. McLaughlin led the defense by allowing just one goal in the first 15 minutes of play.

KU had five different goal scorers in the first 15 minutes to lead 6-1. The teams traded goals midway through the first half, but Millersville ended the half on a three-goal run to cut its deficit to 9-6 at the break.

Three goals were scored in less than a two-minute span as Kutztown led 10-8 with 21:48 to play. Kutztown answered every Millersville goal down the stretch with one of its own, and stepped up defensively as the game was scoreless for 10 of the final 11 minutes.

Brooke Fisher and Hannah Vogel scored three goals apiece for the Marauders. Kaitlin Crouthamel was tabbed with the loss and made 14 saves.

The Golden Bears take on the top-ranked team in the PSAC on Saturday, April 12. Game time against Indiana University (PA) is set for 3:00 p.m. at Keystone Field.
