Lees-McRae Overpowered by Mars Hill

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Lees-McRae was unable to dig out of an 8-0 hole while dropping a nonconference tilt to Mars Hill, 19-4, Wednesday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Lions (6-6) climbed to .500 with a 42-shot performance while Jimmy McBride and Alex Lipsky netted four goals each. The Bobcats (0-12) played stingy defense by forcing 20 turnovers.

MHU's Ryan Sage tallied two quick goals in the first seven minutes of the contest before McBride notched consecutive goals in a span of less than two minutes.

Lipsky scored his first of four after retrieving a pass from Connor Staub at the 14:46 mark in the second quarter.

LMC junior Dalton Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) put the Bobcats on the scoreboard with a nifty move with 4:11 remaining in the second.

Sophomore Schuylor Dickerson (Crozet, Va.) followed suit when he stumbled, but was able to regain his balance before besting Patrick McMahon to make it 8-2 going into half.

Freshman Louis Parks (Mays Landing, N.J.) fired a shot past Jack Grinewich to cut the deficit to five, 8-3.

Parks and Dickerson paced the squad with seven and six shots, respectively, while a quartet of Bobcats scooped three groundballs apiece.

However, the Lions responded with a 10-0 run, powered by McBride, Lipsky and Saxon Weil to put it out of reach.

Parks recorded his second goal of the game to cap off the contests' scoring with a goal with 1:20 remaining in the game.

Junior Benjamin Shifflett (Clemmons, N.C.) accumulated 11 saves while Dustin Barrow (Columbia, S.C.) and Dominick Hamilton (Beech Mountain, N.C.) won four faceoffs each.

LMC travels to Vienna, W. Va. to battle Ohio Valley Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
