Dickinson's Late Rally Comes Up Short at Susquehanna

(Selinsgrove, Pa.) Dickinson tried to rally on Wednesday night, but suffered a 16-14 setback at Susquehanna University.

The host Crusaders struck first, before the Red Devils answered with three straight goals, to lead 3-1, at the 22:53 mark of the first half.

Michelle McGuiness struck twice and handed out an assist to lead a 4-0 run, giving Susquehanna a 5-3 advantage, with 20:35 to play in the first half.

Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) tallied her second free position goal of the night, and junior Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) tied the game at 5-5, with 16:19 on the clock.

The Crusaders went on another 4-0 stint to take a 9-5 lead, before Siebold netted another free position to stop the run Emma Ehler scored back-to-back goals, and O'Brien finished an assist from Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) to cut the margin to 11-7, at halftime.

Sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) scored, just 1:05 into the second half to cut the lead to three. Ehler found the net once again, but Siebold and sophomore Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) doubled up to pull Dickinson within two, 12-10, with 25:15 remaining in the game.

Susquehanna strung together four goals with Jennifer Morrissey (Our Lady of Good Counsel) breaking up the run, to make the score, 16-11, with 14:02 left to play.

The Red Devils tried to chip away at the lead, scoring the final three goals of the night. The Devils cut the deficit to just a pair, still with 7:41 to play, but the Red Devils would hold on for the win.

Ehler finished with four goals while Alyssa Rothman made 12 saves for Susquehanna as they improve to 7-3 on the year.

Siebold tallied a game-high five goals on the night while O'Brien, Iverson and Morrissey each scored twice. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) controlled five draws while Colleen Zulty (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) anchored the defense with five ground balls.

JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made three saves in the first half before Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) came on to make four in the second half.

The Red Devils slip to 7-5 on the season. They return home to face Washington College on Saturday. Opening draw is set for 12:00 pm. The game will be part of a double-header with the men's team. The Devils will celebrate Red & White Day, and there will be a dedication of the Durden Athletic Training Center, following the men's game at 3:00 pm.
