Richmond Shuts out George Mason in 2nd Half for Win

RICHMOND -- Richmond shut out George Mason in the second half and raced to a 16-4 home win Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium to remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Spiders have put together a season-best four-game winning streak and improve their record to 8-4, 3-0 in the A-10. The Patriots slip to 7-5 on the season, with a 1-2 start in the A-10.

Sophomore Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Conn.) led all scorers with four goals, while junior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) gave out four assists in the win. Stevenson leads the team with 24 goals this season, and Doyle paces Richmond with 28 assists. Which are tied for fifth-most in a season in school history. Doyle is one assist away from tying for the fifth-most assists ever at Richmond, now sitting at 67 for her career.

The teams played to a 4-4 halftime score, with Mason scoring first. The teams alternated goals until Stevenson tied the game at four with her first goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining in the half.

Doyle and junior Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) scored three goals each.

The Spiders won 12 of the 14 draws in the second half and kept possession for nearly the entire period. Richmond outshot the Patriots 36-12 overall, 23-3 in the second 30 minutes.

The win went to goalie Michaela Aymong (Northport, N.Y.), her first of the season (1-0).

She made two second-half saves and did not allow a goal when she came in after halftime.

The Spiders finish off the weekend with a Sunday home game against George Washington, with the opening draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
