No. 5 Colorado State Breezes to Victory over Utah

Fort Collins, CO The #5 Colorado State Rams played deep into their roster early and often in a dominating 17-4 victory over visiting Utah on Friday afternoon. Every active player saw significant minutes during the game, which was played under gorgeous sunny skies and 75 degree weather on campus at Colorado State University.

Utah struck first, but the Rams went on an 11 goal run that lasted until halftime to give the home team an 11-1 advantage at the break. Senior attackman Kacy Carter (Rock Canyon HS; Castle Rock, CO) made his mark in his first game in over a month by scoring a game-high four goals, three of which came in the first half.

The second half saw more of the same as the Utes got the first goal of the third quarter before watching the Rams outscore them 6-2 the rest of the way. Colorado State had ten different goal-scorers in the victory.

Several CSU youngsters and role players had huge afternoons as freshmen Ashton Monheiser (Mountain Vista HS; Highlands Ranch, CO) had two goals and an assist while fellow freshman Chase Warner (Tesoro HS; Mission Viejo, CA) had a goal and three assists. Senior Sean Ross (Lewis Palmer HS; Monument, CO) got in on the act with two goals and freshman Matt King (Avon Grove HS; West Grove, PA) had two goals and two assists in his first game of the season.

The Rams outshot Utah 60-16 and scooped up 53 groundballs to the Utes' 18. Colorado State also scored five man-up goals on the afternoon.

CSU moves its record to 9-3 overall and evens its conference mark at 1-1. They will face a hungry and talented Westminster squad on Saturday afternoon in their last home game of the season. The #12 Griffins hung tough with the #2 Colorado Buffaloes on Friday night before falling 12-9. Utah drops to 4-9 and 0-2 in conference play and will play Colorado on Saturday afternoon as well.
