No. 10 Pfeiffer Handles Saint Leo

ST. LEO, F.L. - In what would be their final regular season non-conference test, the No. 10 Pfeiffer lacrosse team defeated Saint Leo 15-8 Saturday afternoon. The Falcons improve to 9-3 overall, while Saint Leo falls to 7-6 with the defeat. The victory also bolsters Pfeiffer's non-conference record to 7-2 on the season.

The Falcons benefitted most of the afternoon from a balanced offensive attack, with five players combining for more than two-thirds of Pfeiffer's goals. Leading the team with three-goal performances were redshirt-junior Tucker Hammock and junior Derek Thomas. Hammock has started in all 12 contests this season and currently leads the team with 32 goals, 105 shots, and 44 total points. Pfeiffer also had two-goal contributions from a trio of seniors with Spencer Allen, Robert Hope, and James Shepherd chipping in almost half of the visiting team's tallies.

Pfeiffer jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with senior Elliot Gilbert drawing first blood for the Falcons. The aforementioned balanced attack of the Falcons took over shortly after Gilbert's goal and the visitors rode a 5-2 lead into the second quarter following a goal from Allen with five seconds left in the first. Pfeiffer picked up five more tallies in the second frame, carrying a 10-6 advantage into the midpoint respite.

The Falcons completely shut out the home team in the third, picking up two goals of their own in the process. The stalwart defensive performance by Pfeiffer in the third was credit in no small part to the goalkeeping efforts of senior Hayden Kirk who picked up 16 stops in the victory. Three more goals for the Falcons in the fourth and final stanza were enough to put the win in the record books.

Pfeiffer returns to action a week from today when they round out the regular season against #3 Limestone. The match will also be Pfeiffer's final conference test before the Conference Carolinas Tournament kicks off. Match time in Gaffney, S.C. is set for 1:00 p.m.
