Valiants Overpowered by Monarchs

PURCHASE, N.Y. After a thrilling victory on Wednesday, the Valiants were unable to reproduce their heroics against the Monarchs of King's, falling by a final score of 19-2. The loss drops Manhattanville to 0-3 in Freedom Conference play.

In a rough day for Valiant goaltending, freshman Ian Reill (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) made only five saves on 22 shots while backup goaltender George Madan (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) made an appearance in the fourth quarter, stopping three of five. Midfielders Cory Balog (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) were the only Valiants to make it on the score sheet as Murray picked up his 14th goal of the season as well as his 11th assist which came on Balog's eighth goal of the season.

Leading the way for the Monarchs were midfielder Pat Bonnot with four goals, and attackers Kieran McMahon and Kyle Wilk who each picked up a hat trick. Despite two goalie changes for King's, all three tenders played solid, turning away five of the seven Manhattanville shots on the afternoon.

The loss hurts the Valiants playoff chances but they aren't out of the hunt yet. Up next, the Valiants take on the Eastern Eagles Wednesday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m. The Eagles are currently in first place in the Freedom Conference and will prove to be a formidable opponent for the Valiants.
