Oberlin Starts with 13-0 Run and Races by W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Oberlin raced out to a 13-0 halftime lead and defeated Washington & Jefferson 18-3 Saturday in women's lacrosse action at Alexandre Stadium.

The Yeowomen (7-2) out-shot the Presidents (0-7) by a 27-8 margin and forced 20 turnovers. A total of 10 different players scored goals for Oberlin, including Grace Barlow's four tallies. Barlow added one assist. Hannah Heinke-Green and Suzanna Doak also had three-goal games for the Yeowomen.

All three W&J goals were scored in the second half by Diana Harvey. Kelsey Roetenberg made six saves in the setback.

Washington & Jefferson plays host to Waynesburg Monday at 6:00 pm.

Washington, PA A total of 10 Yeowomen scored at least one goal as Oberlin easily defeated Washington & Jefferson 18-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Grace Barlow led the way with four goals to run her season total to 35, while first-year Hannah Heinke-Green and sophomore Suzanna Doak each added three scores.

The Yeowomen took a 13-0 lead into the intermission as they out-shot the Presidents 18-1 in the period en route to finishing with a 27-8 advantage in total shots.

Barlow scored the first goal of the game less than a minute in. She would also net the last goal of the first half with 91 seconds left in the stanza.

The Presidents' Diana Harvey scored the first two goals of the second half and would later add another as she accounted for all three of W&J's tallies.

Late in the second half, Emily Kipling would score her second goal of the season, while senior Sarah Orbuch capped the game's scoring with her first goal of the year and third of her career.

Oberlin finished with a 21-9 advantage in ground balls and a 14-9 edge in draw controls. Barlow and Marissa Maxfield led the Yeowomen with three draws each.

Alexa L'Insalata made five saves while playing all 60 minutes in goal.

The Yeowomen will return to conference play on Tuesday night when they travel east to Meadville, Pennsylvania, to take on the Gators of Allegheny College. The opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
