First-Year Tigers Fuel Shutout Victory Over Centenary

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. First-year attackmen Stephen Petersilge and Will Grossman combined for 11 goals and 15 points to propel Colorado College to a 26-0 victory over Centenary (LA) on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.

Petersilge finished with six tallies and assisted on three others, while Grossman struck for five markers and added an assist. In all, CC's freshmen were involved in 17 of the team's season-high 26 goals and finished with 22 points.

The Tigers improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with their fifth consecutive victory.

Midfielder Brad Hale, one of six freshmen in the starting lineup, struck early for the only goal Colorado College needed, coming off the left wing to launch a shot from 12 yards out in the center of the field.

Petersilge factored in on CC's next three tallies, scoring a pair off feeds from sophomore attackman Chris Lee and setting up the first of two goals by senior attackman Michael Idell.

Grossman struck for his first three goals in a span 2:57 to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 4:06 remaining in the first quarter.

Lee finished with career highs of four goals, two assists and six points.

Senior goalkeeper Zach Steedman steered aside four shots during the first half to post his first victory of the season. He also scored three goals and set up another in the second half.

Freshman Ryan Goodall stopped one shot during the second half to complete CC's first shutout since a 28-0 victory over Oglethorpe University on April 8, 2011.

Colorado College finished with a 46-7 advantage in total shots.

Senior goalie Bastien Hay made seven saves for the Gents, who dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Freshman midfielder Sam Winton, who had a goal and an assist, grabbed a game-high six ground balls to help CC amass a 39-14 advantage. First-year long-stick midfielder Chandler Jacobson added five, while rookie defenders Derek Ball and Ian Scobie scooped up three apiece.

The Tigers improved to 28-0 all-time in SCAC regular-season games.

Colorado College returns to action next Saturday when it plays host to Colorado Mesa University at 1:00 p.m.
