Buckanavage got Vermont started in the second period with an unassisted goal just over a minute into play, before the Bearcats answered with a pair of scores. Graham Horvath responded for the Catamounts with a goal off a feed from Buckanavage, as the Catamounts trimmed their deficit to 4-3. Binghamton was able to register the final two scores of the half to take a 6-3 advantage into halftime.

The Bearcats collected the first three scores of the final period, including two from Paul O'Donnell, to extend their advantage to 9-5.
