Lady Hawks Chase Away the Mountain Lions

Young Harris, Ga.--Shorter took its final road trip of the season to play at Young Harris. The Lady Hawks topped the Mountain Lions, 18-10. The win improves Shorter to 5-7 on the season.

Young Harris scored first, but it was all Shorter after that as they Lady Hawks answered with five goals over sixteen minutes to build a, 5-1, lead. During this time, Mia Wigging and Rachel Skinner traded goals back and forth, each netting two before Katie Ott found the back of the net.

Jaclyn Kernohan stopped the scoreless run for the Mountain Lions as she netted her second goal of the game with 9:05 to play in the half. Devin Spero followed with goal to maintain the Lady Hawks lead. Kernohan closed out the scoring for Young Harris, scoring for a third time in the frame with 1:37 to play.

In the second half Shorter scored 12 times; while holding the Mountain Lions to seven goals en route of the 18-10 win. Freshman, Clarissa Rutherford netted her first goal of the season for the Lady Hawks; while Erin Wynn found the back of the net for just the second time this season.

Taylor Moody played the complete game in goal for Shorter; making 5 saves on 15 shots faced.

The Lady Hawks outshot the Mountain Lions 36-21, while also holding the advantage in ground balls 39-25. Shorter went 11-12 in clear attempts, and 3-6 on free position shots. Young Harris topped the Lady Hawks in draw controls, winning 18 of 29.

Wiggins led Shorter with 4 goals, Skinner chipped in with 3; while both, Ott and Crystal Marshall, netted 2 goals each.

The Lady Hawks will close out the 2014 season with a pair of games next week at Ben Brady Field; Thursday, April 17, against Shepard University at 6:00 pm and Friday, April 18, at 12:00 p.m. against Florida Southern.
