Harney Nets 7 to lead King's by Manhattanville

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. Amanda Harney had a game-high seven goals to lead King's (Pa.) past Manhattanville, 16-6, in Freedom Conference lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Harney had seven goals to pace King's (3-8, 1-3 Freedom), followed by four goals from Gabriella Morrocu and two goals and two assists from Jessica Ormrod.

Senior Brooke Marcimo (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) had a team-high two goals for Manhattanville (1-12, 0-3 Freedom), while four other Valiants registered one goal apiece in a losing effort.

The first half was made up entirely of three separate scoring runs, two of which benefited the home team. The Lady Monarchs scored the first three goals of the game, including two from Harney, to open up a 3-0 lead 4:47 into the contest. But Manhattanville fought back, as freshman Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) and junior Saba Naji (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) scored 22 seconds apart and Marcimo followed with her first of the game to even the score at three with 10:38 to go in the half.

However, King's scored the final five goals of the frame, allowing the home team to take an 8-3 lead into the break. King's posted a 23-10 edge in shots over the first 30 minutes, with junior Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) making nine saves to keep her squad in the contest.

Senior Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) snapped the streak 17 seconds into the second half to bring the Valiants back within four, but the Lady Monarchs rattled off the next four tallies to take a 12-4 lead at the midway point of the second stanza. The Valiants managed only two goals the rest of the way, as King's scored three man-up tallies late in the contest to seal the win.

Shaughnessy finished with a career-high 16 saves for Manhattanville, as the Valiants were outshot by a 39-17 margin. Courtney Stefanik made five saves to pick up the win for King's.

Manhattanville will continue conference play on Thursday, as the Valiants travel to Eastern for a 3:30 p.m. match-up with the Eagles.
