Randolph-Macon Tops Shenandoah in Key ODAC Match

WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon sandwiched a seven-goal run around the halftime break Saturday to key an 18-8 men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.

With the scored tied at 5-5 after Tilghman Sanders scored unassisted for SU (5-9, 1-5), the Yellow Jackets (7-6, 3-3) tallied the game's next seven goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Macon held the Hornets off the scoreboard from the 8:09 mark of the second (Sanders' goal) until freshman Stephen LaTona set up classmate Frank Tejera with 3:30 to play in the third.

This cut the deficit to six goals at 12-6. Shenandoah would get no closer.

R-MC scored five of the final six goals of the contest, with Drew Brooks ending a four-goal run for the hosts with his unassisted goal 4:58 before the final horn.

The Hornets battled Macon tough in the opening stanza, scoring the final two goals of the first along with the initial goal of the second to take a 4-3 just 77 seconds into that second period.

The hosts answered with goals at 12:14 and 9:22 to retake a one-goal advantage before Sanderson scored his unassisted goal at 8:09.

Macon outshot its visitors 40-27, had a 34-25 advantage in groundballs and won 18 of 29 faceoffs.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Ben Judy had nine of the game's 15 saves.

The Hornets complete their home slate on Wednesday night at 7 in an ODAC contest against Bridgewater.
