No. 1 Adelphi Outguns Saint Michael's to Stay Unbeaten

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Saint Michael's fell to No. 1 Adelphi, 19-11, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play at Motamed Field. The Purple Knights slipped to 3-8 overall and 3-5 in the league, while the Panthers are 12-0 and 9-0, and stand first in both national polls.

First-year Tom Fitzgerald (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had career highs of three goals and three assists for the Purple and Gold, while senior Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) registered a career-best four goals. First-year Ben Overslaugh (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) scored twice, senior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) scored once with five ground balls, and classmate Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) tallied once, scooped three ground balls and won five face-offs. Sophomore T.J. Bicknell (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) made 14 saves.

Sophomore Salvatore Tuttle (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) had a hat trick for the Panthers, who qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament and last lost a regular-season on April 13, 2013, at the hands of the Purple Knights. Graduate student Joe Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale/Penn State) added two goals and two assists, while four goalies saw time, with graduate student Aidan Bennardo (Cutchogue, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) claiming the win after making three first-half saves.

After Adelphi scored the opening two goals just 26 seconds apart to go up 2-0 at 9:38 of the opening quarter, Quenneville converted Fitzgerald's feed 1:05 later to bring the deficit to 2-1. However, the Panthers quickly regrouped, scoring five times in a 2:36 span to grab a 7-1 advantage by 5:14. They led 14-2 at halftime and 19-5 by the end of the third quarter. Saint Michael's put together a rally in the fourth, using a 6-0 scoring run. McDonald scored consecutive goals in the period, and Fitzgerald notched three points, including scoring twice.

Saint Michael's hosts Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
