Bobcats Falter in Season Finale at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Lees-McRae senior Katelin Rooney and junior Ximena Dupont tallied two goals each, but the Bobcats fell in their season finale, 15-6, in a Conference Carolinas tilt Saturday evening in Mount Olive, N.C.

The Trojans (10-4, 4-2 CC) had a trio of players register hat tricks, led by Katie McGovern, who had four goals. The Bobcats (5-8, 0-6) held the groundball advantage (11-8) and had 10 successful clears on 11 attempts.

Rooney (Naples, Fla.) made her final game as a Bobcat a solid one when she netted a goal only 1:51 into the contest to give LMC an early 1-0 lead.

McGovern sparked a 5-0 run over the next 11 minutes with a pair of goals before Dupont (Fort Meyers, Fla.) notched her first goal with 11:53 remaining in the first half.

Dupont led the Bobcats with four groundballs and three shots on goal.

LMC would be held scoreless the rest of the half while the Trojans ripped off a 6-0 run.

Sophomore Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.) got in the mix with a goal at the 23:40 mark before chipping in with an assist on Rooney's second goal with 21:44 left in the game.

Mount Olive's Michelle Scannell and Michelle Fortier tallied a goal apiece to stretch the lead to 10, 14-4.

Bobcat sophomore Jenah Tracy (Naples, Fla.) whipped a shot past the Trojans Sarah Snell with 9:54 on the clock while Dupont followed up with her second goal of the evening at 6:38.

Mount Olive notched a goal with four seconds remaining in the contest and claimed with win with a 33-shot performance.

LMC goalie Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) stopped 12 shots while five Bobcats fired off at least two shots.

Both offenses played smoothly while each team committed only 12 turnovers.
