No. 5 Colorado State Doubles Up No. 12 Westminster

FORT COLLINS, Colo. The No. 12 Westminster lacrosse team struggled to score on Sat. and they dropped a 12-6 decision at No. 5 Colorado State in a Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference game.

Westminster falls to 8-5 overall this season and 1-3 in RMLC action. They will be the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament and host a quarterfinal game at Dumke Field on April 26.

Colorado State (10-3, 2-1) scored the first four goals of the game as the raced to a 6-1 halftime lead. Jamison Amonino tallied the only goal of the half for the Griffins at the 10:04 mark of the second quarter. Westminster would mount a small rally in the fourth quarter with consecutive goals from Josh Holland, Ethan Gosselin and Kyle Postler. That run cut the deficit to 10-6 with 6:36 remaining. CSU closed the win with back-to-back goals.

Westminster was outshot in the game 43-28 and they were just 6 of 21 in face-offs. CSU scored three goals on nine man-up chances and they limited the Griffins to 19 of 26 clears.

Holland, Madsen and Gosselin each added an assist to their goals for a two-point afternoon. Madsen took six shots to lead the team with three other getting off five shots. Chris Burckle was credited with 13 saves in the loss.

The Griffins opponent in the quarterfinal game will be in-state rival Utah. Westminster defeated the Utes 29-8 at Dumke Field on April 5.

Westminster will conclude the regular season next weekend with a trip to Boise, Idaho for a pair of games. They open the trip against Boise State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. MST.
