Frostburg State Tops Wesley in CAC Play

DOVER, Del. Jorden Lutz recorded a game-high six points on five goals and an assist, and also set the Wesley single-game record with 12 ground balls but it was not enough as Frostburg State defeated the Wolverines, 12-8, in CAC action on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines now stand at 4-8 overall and 0-6 in league play while the Bobcats move to 3-11 on the year and 1-5 in league play.

Frostburg took an early 2-0 lead but Lutz tallied all three of the Wolverines goals in the opening half to keep Wesley in the game.

Trailing, 7-3, after 30 minutes of play, Rylee Gould (2a) fed Lutz in front of the net for a score, cutting the deficit to just three goals with 29:23 remaining. Lutz tallied another goal after Frostburg's Megan White found the back of the net, but the Bobcats then ran off three-straight goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead with 9:11 left in regulation.

Wesley fought back to rally as three different Wolverines (Kirsten Ward, Alyse Obermeyer and Jessica Giaccone) scored goals separated by just five minutes.

The Bobcats were able to stop the bleeding, however, with an insurance goal with just under a minute left to seal the victory.

Lutz and Stephanie Blakely caused a team-high three turnovers for Wesley while Kaitlin Brennan and Giaccone controlled a pair of draws.

Katherine Cooke made 16 saves in the loss as the Bobcats were led by Megan Hart and Megan White who recorded five points each.

The Wolverines return to action on April 16 when they travel to take on Mary Washington for a 4:00 pm draw.
