Waynesburg Uses Big First Half to Defeat Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Waynesburg scored on each of its first six shot attempts and defeated Washington & Jefferson 15-9 in lacrosse action Monday night at Alexandre Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (3-6), who never trailed after scoring the first seven goals, held an 11-4 halftime lead and hung on for their first win against W&J (0-8) in seven chances.

Alex Dikos fired in a team-high four goals for W&J, while Ashley Bulger added three goals. Dikos, who also had five draw controls, brought the Presidents to within 12-7 with 20 minutes left, but back-to-back goals by the Yellow Jackets ended W&J's comeback bid.

Diana Harvey produced a five-point evening with two goals and three assists. Michaela Mulokey suffered the loss in goal after making five first-half saves. Kelsey Roetenberg stopped seven shots in the final 30 minutes.

JoHanna Phillips turned back seven shots in the cage for Waynesburg. Holly Bachman paced the offense with five goals and one assist. WU out-shot W&J 30-19 and forced 30 Washington & Jefferson turnovers.

W&J hosts Ohio Wesleyan Saturday at 1:00 pm on Lax-4-Leukemia Day at Alexandre Stadium.
