Panthers Drop Non-Conference Match to Colonels

OLD WESTBURY, NY - Old Westbury lost a non-conference match-up Monday afternoon to the Wilkes Colonels by a score of 21-12 from Panther Park. The loss sent Old Westbury's record to 3-12 on the season as Wilkes climbed to 10-2. Today's game marked the first ever home game at Panther Park for the women's lacrosse program.

Tori Kerr opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 27:23 mark. She was followed by goals from teammates Gabby Ford, Ally Bisckei, Madeleine Brownsey and Carley Smith, along with another goal of her own for to build a 6-0 Colonel lead to open the game.

Old Westbury pushed back as Sara Bey rushed past Wilkes' defenders to find the net at 19:14 for her 31st goal of the season.

The Panthers fought hard for the rest of the first half, adding goals from Meagan Haber and Gabriella DiPierno as well as a pair of goals from Courtney Gallagher to head into the half down 13-5.

The Panthers struck first in the second half as Maria Dischley and Haber scored back-to-back goals. After another Wilkes goal from Brownsey, Haber and Dischley struck again, each finding the back of the net to close the Wilkes lead to 14-9 with 23:04 to play.

The Colonels then took control of the game, scoring six goals over the next 9:51 to stretch their lead to 20-10 with just 8:18 remaining in regulation.

However, the Panthers did not back down as Jordan Shildt scored her third goal of the season with 6:17 remaining.

DiPierno closed out the scoring books with a goal assisted by Gallagher to bring the game to its 21-12 final.

Haber led the Panther charge with her second career hat trick, scoring three goals while grabbing two ground balls, causing two turnovers and snatching six draw controls for Old Westbury. Gallagher and Dischley each scored two goals, extending their program record scoring streak to 12 games. Dischley also collected four ground balls, caused four turnovers and controlled seven draws in the loss. Bey added two goals to register her eighth multi-goal game of the season in addition to racking up four ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Jessica Walker also set career highs with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Brownsey led the way for Wilkes with seven goals, six ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Jackie Cartagena (3-12) broke a program record with 18 saves for the Panthers while Morgan Galluzzo (10-2) rejected six shots on the day to earn the victory.

Wilkes held the edge in shots (44-23) and ground balls (39-27) while Old Westbury tied a program record for the second straight game with 17 draw controls.

Old Westbury closes out its season with a Senior Day Skyline Conference battle on Wednesday (Apr. 16) against the Maritime Privateers at 3:30 p.m. from Panther Park. Prior to opening draw, seniors Jackie Cartagena (2013-14), Jessica Walker and Zuri Reaves-Bey (2014) will be honored with the annual senior day ceremony.
