Franklin & Marshall Shuts Down Ursinus

LANCASTER, Pa. Grace Saliba scored three goals and assisted on another to lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to an 11-3 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Tylus Field. The win is the third straight for F&M as the Diplomats improved to 12-3, 6-0 CC while the Bears dropped to 7-6, 2-4 CC.

F&M took control early with two scores in the opening 14 minutes of action. Emily Everdell tallied the first and Kimberly Abruzzo found Siobhan Burke at 16:41 for the second score and a 2-0 F&M lead. Abruzzo put one through at 3:05 before Saliba netted an unassisted tally at 1:51 to put F&M up 4-0. The Bears answered 45 seconds later when Devin Barkel found the net to make it 4-1 at the break.

The Diplomats started the second with three unanswered scores and took a 7-1 advantage. Caroline Krohn buried a pass from Ali Kelly to get things started before Saliba picked up her second goal to give F&M a 6-1 lead at 24:54. Brittney Jorgenson made it 7-1, but the Bears answered with two straight to come within four, 7-3, with 13:34 left to play.

F&M countered and scored the last four points of the game to secure the win. Krohn started the run off with an unassisted goal at 12:54 and Saliba finished off a pass from Burke 1:30 later to put the Diplomats up 9-3. Saliba picked up her fourth point with an assist to Mary Mitchell at 9:19 and Claire Jackson put the last ball through the net at 4:48.

Krohn finished with two goals while Abruzzo, Burke, Everdell, Jorgenson, Mitchell and Jackson each struck once.

Kelsey Hoffman improved to 10-3 with seven saves and Margaret Philbin took the loss with nine stops on the evening and dropped to 6-6.

F&M outshot Ursinus 32-14 and went 20 for 23 in clear attempts.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Haverford at 1:00 p.m.

LANCASTER, Pa. Eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall scored the first four goals of the game as the Diplomats (12-3, 6-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (7-6, 2-4 Centennial) 11-3 in lacrosse action on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Devin Brakel had a goal and an assist, with junior Kitty Dawson and senior Amber Moyer also scoring goals. Freshman Jayme Verman added an assist.

Brakel scored the Bears lone goal in the first half with 66 seconds left, to make the halftime score 4-1 in favor of the Dips.

After a three-goal run by F&M, Ursinus got back-to-back goals as Moyer and Dawson scored. Dawson, scoring on a Brakel assist with 13:34 left, made the score 7-3.

Sophomore Mary Deliberti had three draw controls, as did Verman. Sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Philbin made nine saves and had six groundballs.

Ursinus heads to McDaniel on Saturday.
