Marywood Tops Centenary on Senior Day

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Marywood exploded for 11 goals during the second half and earned a 15-7 victory over Centenary at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field on Thursday afternoon.

Centenary (5-8, 2-3) led 5-4 at the half, but was able to muster just a pair of second-half scores.

Marywood led 2-1, but senior Steve Orsini (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) netted a pair of goals during a four-minute span to give Centenary a one-goal lead after 15 minutes.

Sophomore Anthony Biango's (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) man-up goal made the score 4-2; however the Pacers answered two scores to knot the game 4-4. Biango put Centenary in front at the half, scoring with 1:09 left before the break.

Midway through the third quarter, Marywood fired in four goals in succession, build an 8-5 lead. A man-down goal from Orsini followed by a tally by sophomore Kenton Gottshall (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) brought Centenary within one, but Marywood took control with the game's final seven goals.

Orsini, who was honored during Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game, attempted 12 of the Cyclones' 35 shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) made 22 saves and grabbed nine ground balls, while junior Nick Perkalis (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) scooped up six ground balls.

Riley Dobel scored six times and dished out two assists for the Pacers, while Michael Squillante won 21 of 23 faceoffs.

Centenary closes out the regular season next Thursday at nationally-ranked Cabrini at 3:30 pm.
