Blazers Drop Commonwealth Tilt to Lebanon Valley

FREDERICK, Md. - A slow start doomed Hood as the Blazers fell 13-5 to Lebanon Valley in Commonwealth Conference action.

The Dutchmen scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter to take command of the game early. Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) scored twice in the second quarter for Hood, who trailed 9-2 at the half.

Randolph Clark (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) scored during third period off an assist from Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa./Ridley). In the fourth quarter, Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md./John Carroll) scored from long range off a pass from Sean Murphy (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) and Brett Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford) finished the scoring with just over three minutes left.

Malik Pedroso had a monster game for Dutchmen with five goals and four assists for nine points. Matt Roupe also had a multi-goal game for Lebanon Valley. Ryan Lanigan had four ground balls and Andrew Kruter forced three turnovers.

James Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) had six ground balls and four caused turnovers for Hood.

The Blazers won 13 of 21 face offs in the match. Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) went 6 of 9, while Clark was 7 of 12. Hood won the ground ball battle 35-30.

Both teams made goalie changes at the half. For Hood, Joseph McCulloh (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) got the start and made six saves in the first half. John Hoffman (New Market, Md./Oakdale) came on in the second half and stopped five shots. Mike Moll had four saves in the first half for Lebanon Valley, while Kevin Krasley made seven in the second half.

The Blazers travel to Elizabethtown on April 22 for a 4:00 p.m. contest.

FREDERICK, Md. - Senior Malik Pedroso was unstoppable as Lebanon Valley led wire-to-wire in a 13-5 win over Hood on Thursday afternoon in Frederick, Md.

Pedroso netted five goals and tallied four assists to lead the Valley with nine points offensively. Senior Matt Roupe added two goals, while six other Dutchmen notched a tally in the win.

Freshman Tristan Kalinay opened the scoring with his second career goal 30 seconds into the contest, sparking a 5-0 opening quarter for the Valley. The Blazers finally got on the board to open the second, but another winning quarter from LVC took the game into the locker room with the Dutchmen holding a comfortable 9-2 advantage.

The second half featured just seven goals as LVC played solid defense and worked the clock. The Valley tallied two of three third-period markers and split with Hood in the fourth with two apiece to push the final score to 13-5.

Senior Mike Moll picked up his sixth win of the year, making four saves in 30 minutes of play. Classmate Kevin Krasely also notched two quarters of playing time, making seven saves and allowing three goals.

LVC led in shots, 42-32, and Hood held a 35-30 edge in ground balls. The Valley was just 1 for 7 on extra-man opportunities and lost the faceoff battle as Hood won 13 of 21 draws.

The Dutchmen return to Arnold Field for their regular-season finale on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
