Explorers Stifle Crosstown Rival Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle staked out an early 4-0 lead and never trailed as the Explorers stifled crosstown rival Saint Joseph's 9-4 in a match-up critical for Atlantic 10 Tournament hopes.

The squad honored its eight seniors prior to the game, including manager Allie Aughe (Lake Ariel, Pa./Scranton Prep), Kaitlin Colbridge (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Kelly Collins (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), Jackie Donato (Malvern, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Katie Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Somers), Tori Mitros (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), Maggie O'Ferrall (Catonsville, Md./Mount De Sales) and Savanna Smith (North Delta, B.C., Can./North Delta Secondary).

All seven senior players got the start today, and were on the field when Caitlyn Brostrand (Runnemede, N.J./Camden Catholic) netted the game's first goal just 47 seconds into the contest.

Brostrand led the Explorers (9-5, 3-2 Atlantic 10) with four points on two goals and two assists. Katelyn Fay (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) added two goals and an assist, while Toni Massetti (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), Erin McCabe (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack), Allie Burnett (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), Allee Ilgenfritz (York, Pa./West York) and Alanna Diffendal (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) each scored one apiece. Kelly Furman added an assist.

Colbridge was terrific on defense, scooping up a game-high six ground balls. Marasco recorded a game-best three caused turnovers and added one draw control. Fay snagged a game-high three draw controls as the Explorers doubled up the Hawks in that category, 10-5.

Four different Hawks (4-10, 1-4 Atlantic 10) scored goals, while Courtney Emanuele recorded two assists.
