LeGrett Helps Lakers Blast by Bloomsburg

ERIE, Pa.- The #12 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team beat Bloomsburg, 18-7, on a brisk Saturday at Tullio Field. Anna LeGrett led with four goals and three assists as the Lakers moved to 9-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Mercyhurst took an early lead, but Bloom rallied, pulling within 6-5 late in the first half. The Lakers dominated from there, putting forth a surgical effort to take down the Huskies. LeGrett found Mackenzie Jordan and then Jenna Schlagenhauf scored to make it 8-5 going into halftime.

Becca Himes scored 57 seconds into the second half, and after a Bloom goal, LeGrett hit Himes for her third goal of the day. Schlagenhauf followed with a goal and then Himes finished a Regan Kaestner pass for a 12-6 advantage with 19:07 to go. LeGrett found the back of the net 50 seconds later.

Hannah Corton got in on the action, scoring at the 12:50 mark. The visitors scored a minute later, but Carly Zimmerman answered with a goal for a 15-7 margin. LeGrett scored again 51 seconds later and then Corton found Himes for her fifth goal of the match. LeGrett closed the scoring at the 3:25 mark, picking up her fourth goal of the game.

Jordan opened the scoring with a free position goal at the 27:36 mark of the first half. LeGrett followed with a goal, but Bloom responded with one of its own. Taylor Ventre assisted on a Jordan goal and then Corton hit Himes for an early 4-1 lead. Bloomsburg scored, but Ventre found Schlagenhauf for a score. The Huskies then scored twice. After LeGrett hit Ventre for a goal, Bloom pulled back within a goal at the 8:11 mark. The Lakers controlled the action after that.

LeGrett totaled four goals and three assists, along with three draw controls and three ground balls. Himes scored five goals, while Jordan and Schlagenhauf each put up three scores. Corton and Ventre had a goal and two assists apiece, as Corton took five draw controls. Rebecca Muscella recorded nine saves in goal.

The Lakers outshot Bloom, 29-20, and won 15-27 draw controls.

The Laker seniors were honored before the match, as Anna LeGrett, Emily Pflumm, Amanda Slavin, and Sarah Stokes wrap up their Mercyhurst careers.

Mercyhurst improved to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg fell to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the league. The Lakers host Slippery Rock in another PSAC match on Wednesday, April 23.
