Shorter Victorious Season Finale vs. Ohio Valley

ROME--Shorter closed out the season with a 20-10 win over Ohio Valley to finish the season 7-7 and on a three game win streak.

Ohio Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but Shorter answered with three of their own to tie the game on consecutive goals by Ryan Baird, Tyler Schott and Matt Kristiansen. The Fighting Scots scored twice with three minutes to play to regain the lead, 5-3, before the Hawks closed out the frame with a goal by Kyle VanKauwenberg on a feed from Joshua Skinner.

Trailing, 5-4, to begin the second period, Shorter netted six goals, while holding Ohio Valley to two to take a, 10-7, lead into halftime. During the frame M. Kristiansen scored three times; while Schott, Tyler Kristiansen, and Jordan Coates added one goal each.

In the third frame, the Hawks scored three times; first with 12:04 to play as M. Kristiansen found the back of the net, Schott netted his third goal of the game at the 3:46 mark, and James VandenBrink scored on a pass from Zachery Dirkse with thirty-five seconds remaining. The Fighting Scots scored twice in the frame, and Shorter led 13-9 at the end of quarter.

Seven times, the Hawks scored in the final frame, to close out the win. Skinner led things off with a goal before ten seconds ticked off the clock, VanKauwenberg followed forty-five seconds later, and Schott found the back of the net with 11:46 to play. Senior, Kyle Morris netted his final goal as a member of the Hawks with 11:18 in the frame, and VanKauwenberg posted his final goal at 4:08. M. Kristiansen and Dirkse also scored in the period.

Ohio Valley's Adam Dickson scored on a feed from Brennan Strothers to record the only goal for the Fighting Scots in the period for the final 20-10 score.

Tanner Short played the complete game for the Hawks in goal making 17 saves on 27 shots faced; while Harley Gadomski made 11 saves on 31 shots.

In total, Shorter outshot Ohio Valley 57-37, won 21 of 34 face-offs, and held the advantage in ground balls 48-38.
