Davidson Dominates Liberty on Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Led by five Wildcats with multiple goals, Davidson cruised to its school-record eighth straight win by taking home a 16-3 victory on Senior Day against Liberty Saturday at Richardson Stadium in Big South women's lacrosse action.

The Wildcats (9-5, 5-0 Big South) broke last year's school-record seven-game win streak and pushed their Big South winning streak to 12 in a row.

A 12-1 run over the last 35 minutes of the game helped Davidson seal up their eighth straight win.

Prior to the start of the contest, seniors Ann Fucigna, Erin Doherty, Paige Logan, Rebecca Garman, Liz Edwards and Carlee Simon, who got on the field in the final minutes for the first time since her sophomore season, were honored for Senior Day, and all six of them helped Davidson dominate across the board.

The duo of Fucigna (5) and Doherty (2) combined for seven goals, with Fucigna also dishing out two assists to match her season-high of seven points. The senior attacker had four of her five goals in Davidson's 12-1 run and Doherty capped off the scoring spree with the final goal at the 1:32 mark in the second half.

Logan, Garman and Edwards each had solid games defensively. Logan led the way with a career-high six draw controls to go with three groundballs and a turnover. Garman added two draw controls and two groundballs, while Edwards had a groundball and a caused turnover.

Junior Emily Cooke matched Fucigna with seven points, dishing out five assists to go with two goals. The duo hooked up three times in the second half, helping the 'Cats score their 11th, 12th and 13th goals.

Emily Rademacher and Emma Sissman scored three times each to round out Davidson's multi-goal scorers.

Liberty (2-13, 1-4 Big South) saw Nina Dunay, Courtney Brown and Michaela Rich each score a goal, while three other players added an assist each.

After the Flames grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first half, it was all Davidson the rest of the way. The Wildcats went on a 4-0 run started by Doherty's 11th goal of the season. Then after Liberty's Dunay made it 4-2, Sissman started a 7-0 run that spanned into the second half with her 39th and later 40th goals of the year for an 11-2 Wildcat lead.

Again playing outstanding in goal was Katy Boyle, stopping four shots as she matched her season-low of three goals allowed. Freshman Dana Stasieluk saw her first collegiate action and was credited with her first career save.

Davidson dominated in shots (35-8) and draw controls (18-3). The defense also forced seven of Liberty's 22 turnovers and helped the 'Cats go 14 for 15 on clear attempts.

The 'Cats hit the road for their final two regular season contests, starting April 25 at Longwood for a 4:00 p.m. start.

Game Notes: During the win streak, Davidson has outscored the opposition 107-55 ... head coach Kim Wayne moved to within one victory of 50 for her career ... the 'Cats finished 5-2 at home, winning the last five straight.
