Centenary Closes Regular Season with Victory over CSE

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Freshman Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) delivered a career-high 14 points and sophomore Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) added nine points as Centenary defeated St. Elizabeth 20-12 on Tuesday afternoon at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.

Voelkner netted eight goals and handed out a career-high six assists, coming up one point shy of Megan Mars' single-game school record of 15 points set in 2010. Her six assists are also the second-highest, single-game total in school history, behind Sutko's seven helpers that she dished out at Gwynedd Mercy earlier this spring.

Sutko reached the 100-point mark for her career with an assist on Voelkner's goal at the 9:22 mark of the second half. She is the ninth Cyclone in history to record at least 100 points.

Sophomore Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) added six goals and two assists, while goalkeeper Andrea Wisniewski (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made 10 saves in net.

Schmitt scored twice in a two-minute span, both off feeds from Voelkner, to give the Cyclones a 3-2 lead early in the first half.

The Eagles fought back to tie the score at 5-5, but Voelkner netted her third goal of the half to help Centenary retake the lead. Sutko added a pair of scores, including a man-down goal with 22 seconds left, to lift the Cyclones to a three-goal edge at the half.

Voelkner added another man-down goal 20 seconds into the second half to bring the score to 9-5. After CSE came within three, Schmitt started a run of four-straight Cyclone goals at the 25:09 mark.

Seven minutes later, Sutko fed sophomore Kristen Rabenstein (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), who found the back of the net, making the score 16-8, and the Cyclones would cruise to the finish.

Voelkner collected eight draw controls and six ground balls and caused five turnovers, while Rabenstein added five ground balls and four draw controls.

Nicole Rios and Kelly O'Dell each scored four goals for CSE. Both teams recorded 32 shots.

Centenary will be the No. 6 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament and visit No. 3 Marywood on Saturday in the quarterfinal round. Time for the game has not been determined.
