Britons Crush Kalamazoo in MIAA Action

ALBION, Mich. An Albion team badly in need of a confidence boost Tuesday night got the start it needed. Ashley Glenn scored three times and Mackenzie Novak added two goal and an assist as the Britons sprinted to an early 7-0 lead and cruised to a 21-5 victory over MIAA rival Kalamazoo.

It was Albion's largest margin of victory this season and its second-largest scoring total in a game this season.

"It was nice to come out with more confidence, like they actually believed they could play well," said Albion head coach Shanta Loecker. "The players were supportive of each other on the field and it showed in the result.

"We did a good job of being smart defensively," Loecker added. "We knew they had a couple of good offensive threats and I think we did a good job of honoring that."

Kadie Koolwich controlled seven draws and Glenn had six as Albion dominated possession. Glenn finished with six goals, increasing her season total to 58. Alyssa Glenn added five goals, Julie Wood had four, and Novak finished with three goals. McKenzie Bueck, Kit Maher, and Koolwick added one goal apiece.

"Kadie worked hard on that first step (on draw control)," Loecker said. "Controlling the draw allowed us to dictate the pace."

Controlling the pace is essential, Loecker said, in a week when the Britons play three times. Albion will travel to Notre Dame, Ind., Thursday for a contest against Saint Mary's, and it completes the regular season Saturday at Adrian.

Albion opened a 10-goal margin with nearly 11 minutes to play in the first half. The Britons went on to hold a 14-3 lead at halftime.
