Thompsons Score 15 as Danes Down Saints

ALBANY, N.Y Miles, Lyle, and Ty Thompson combined for 15 goals as UAlbany defeated Siena 19-11 at John Fallon Field in the 36th edition of the Capital Region rivalry. Colin Clive led the Saints with a season-high five points in the loss.

The nation's top scoring team averaging 15.3 goals per game, UAlbany (8-5) found the net early and often in leading throughout. Siena (8-5) would not back down though as the Saints rallied to within 9-7 with 3:35 left in the first half.

But UAlbany scored twice late to take an 11-7 lead at the break and ultimately scored six unanswered goals in holding the Saints scoreless for 16:34, building an eight-goal lead to put the game out of reach.

The nation's leading scorer and Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year, Lyle Thompson tallied eight points including six goals. His older brother Miles, the nation's second leading scorer, posted an identical stat line while cousin Ty added a hat trick. Blaze Riorden made 13 saves for UAlbany which has won four straight.

Casey Dowd controlled the faceoff X for the Saints, winning 22-34 draws in picking up 14 groundballs. Dowd, who also scored, broke his own program single-season record of 125 groundballs which he set as a sophomore last year.

Clive tied a season-high with four goals, while Kyle Curry netted a hat trick for Siena to notch his sixth multi-goal performance in the past seven games. The nation's fourth leading scorer, Richie Hurley added four points for the Saints which were slowed by 21 turnovers.

Siena returns to conference play when it concludes regular season action Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at Manhattan. The Saints have already clinched the MAAC regular season championship and No. 1 seed in next month's conference tournament.
