Bears Score Late to Edge Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. Ursinus freshman Jayme Verman scored a goal with 4:06 left to break a 4-all tie as the Bears (8-7, 3-5 Centennial) defeated Haverford (7-8, 3-5 Centennial) 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Swan Field.

The Bears held the Fords to just one goal over the final 37:15, outscoring Haverford 6-1 during that span.

Freshman Emma Ebert scored two goals, as did freshman Lindsey Grabell. Verman had an assist, as did junior Kitty Dawson. Sophomore Devin Brakel scored the other goal for the Bears.

Haverford started the game on a 3-0 run, with Dayna Kim scoring two goals. Her second, coming with 7:15 left, gave the Fords a 3-0 lead.

From there, Ebert started the scoring with a goal at 6:16 left in the half to cut the deficit to 3-1 at the end of the first.

In the second, Grabell scored back-to-back goals, the last coming with 22:27 left to knot the score at 3-all.

Brakel's goal at 16:27 on a free position shot gave Ursinus a 4-3 lead. Haverford would tie the score at 4-all when Sarina Manetta scored with 9:13 left.

After Verman scored, Ebert scored with one second left to ice the game.

Individually, senior Caroline Cannon had three draw controls, while freshman Amy Kohout, and sophomore Mary Deliberti each had three ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Philbin had four saves for Ursinus, who hosts Muhlenberg on Saturday.
