Valiants Fall to FDU-Florham on Senior Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. Senior co-captains Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) and Brooke Marcimo (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) both found the net on Senior Night, but it was not enough as Manhattanville dropped a 15-3 decision to FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action on a blustery Wednesday night at Field.

The Valiants honored their two senior co-captains before the final home game of the season, and the tandem accounted for two of the team's three goals. Marcimo had a team-high two points on a goal and an assist, while Honovich and junior Saba Naji (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) both scored once as well for Manhattanville (1-14, 0-5 Freedom).

FDU-Florham (7-8, 4-1 Freedom) was led by Noelle Shirey with a game-high six goals and Courtney Rendinaro with a goal and four assists. Brienna Reasoner added two goals and a helper while Joelle Manganella and Annie George scored twice each for the Devils as well.

The Devils opened the scoring with the first three goals of the game, including a pair by Shirey, before Marcimo got Manhattanville on the board for the first time at the 10:47 mark of the opening half. But that was all the offense the Valiants could muster over the opening 30 minutes, while Shirey added three more to help give the visitors an 8-1 lead at the break.

Shirey struck again early in the second half as part of a 5-0 run for FDU, which extended the team's lead to 13-1 with 22:14 remaining. Honovich and Naji both scored for the Valiants in the second stanza, but those goals were cancelled out by tallies from George and Manganella.

FDU-Florham ended the night with a 28-11 edge in shots. Junior Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) made seven saves over 60 minutes for Manhattanville, while Grace Warburton had two stops to earn the win for FDU.

Manhattanville will close out the 2014 season on Saturday, when the Valiants travel to Misericordia for a 1:00 p.m. match-up with the Cougars.
