Aztecs Roll Past Fresno State to End Regular Season

SAN DIEGO San Diego State put together one of its best performances of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Fresno State, 17-4, on senior night at Aztec Lacrosse Field. With the victory, SDSU clinches its first-ever berth to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, beginning May 1 in Denver, Colo.

Seniors Meris Walsh and Isabelle Pickett scored two goals apiece for San Diego State (9-7, 4-5 MPSF), as Walsh also recorded two groundballs and Pickett added an assist, a groundball and a draw control. Junior Grace Korandovich scored a team-high three goals, all in the game's first 12 minutes, while sophomore Felice Artuso and freshman Vickie Porter also chipped in with two scores.

Junior Michaela Jarvis finished with a goal and three assists for the Aztecs, who matched their third-highest total of the season. Junior Bailey Ewing, junior Lauren Maack, sophomore Alexa Comfort and freshman Kayla Deitz scored one goal apiece, as SDSU outshot Fresno State 34-13 with a 16-7 edge in draw controls.

After Fresno State took an early 1-0 lead, the Aztecs scored the game's next seven goals. Korandovich's score off an assist from Pickett put SDSU ahead, 3-1, and Jarvis' free-position goal made it 7-1 with 11:26 left in the first half. San Diego State took a 10-2 lead into halftime after Artuso's goal off a pass from Jarvis with 57 seconds to go before intermission, and the Aztecs scored the first seven goals of the second half to put the game out of reach.

Defensively, junior Christina Ricciardulli and Porter each had two caused turnovers, while Artuso finished with five draw controls and Porter, Walsh and Maack all scooped up a pair of groundballs. It was the final career home games for both Pickett and Walsh, who is the program's all-time leader in goals scored (105) and leads the team this season with 32.

"I'm really excited about the momentum we're taking into the conference tournament," head coach Kylee White said. "It's exciting as a program to be going. I'm glad we were able to play so well for our seniors on such an emotional night. It was a great team effort."
