Limestone Runs by Pfeiffer to Win Conference Carolinas Title

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Senior attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) produced nine points as No. 3 Limestone (17-0, 6-0 CC) delivered a commanding 16-8 victory over No. 8 Pfeiffer (13-4, 5-1 CC) and claimed their seventh straight Conference Carolinas championship on Saturday, April 26.

Oor headlined the effort with four goals and five assists while senior attack Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) pulled within three goals of the program season record with four more scores, two groundballs and two draw controls. She has 69 goals on the season and trails Racquel Prager's 2012 mark of 71.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Cline (Hagerstown, Md.) added three goals and senior defender Jessica Tessman (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) notched four caused turnovers on the defensive side. Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Teeter (Auburn, N.Y.) was a difference maker in goal as she went the distance, allowing eight goals and making nine saves to move to 17-0 on the year.

Her performance over the weekend earned her Tournament Most Outstanding Player while Tessman, McCarrick and Oor were each named All-Tournament.

Having survived a regular season meeting in Misenheimer in which they trailed 10-5 with 15 minutes to play, Limestone made sure that they would not find themselves in a similar position in their pursuit of their seventh straight Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship.

Within the first six minutes they had rifled in five goals without surrendering one before the Falcons managed back-to-back scores by Sarah Daly and Haley Gourdie to cut it ot 5-2 with 19:18 on the clock. The Saints quickly responded with consecutive scores of their own as part of a 5-2 run to end the half. Oor assisted on the last three goals in that stretch, including one by MacLellan as time expired in the frame. That gave Limestone a commanding 10-3 lead at the break.

Out of the half the Saints blew it open with five of the first seven goals to make it 15-4 by the 20:06 mark before Pfeiffer finally found their offense. They would notch four straight goals in a six minute span to close to 15-8 with 12:21 to play. That would be the extent of their rally, however, as they would not score again and Oor capped it off with a final goal with 1:19 to play.

Daly led the Falcons with two goals and an assist while Ashleigh Kassab finished with a goal, an assist and five groundballs. Stephanie Athens and Gourdie each had a goal and an assist and Cassidy Wilson played 36:41 in goal, allowing 14 goals and making six saves to suffer the loss.

Far from done with their season, Limestone returns to action when they host No. 5 Lindenwood in a game of critical national importance for both teams on Saturday, May 3. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the new Saints Field.
