Hartwick Rolls Past Alfred on Senior Day

ONEONTA, NY- Hartwick, powered by a career-high seven goals from Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), routed visiting Alfred 16-6 to claim its first Empire 8 win on Senior Day at Wright Stadium. 'Wick closes its season with a 6-10 mark overall and a 1-6 showing in league play.

Sisco tallied five of the Hawks' seven first-half goals, including three in the opening 15 minutes to key the win. Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) contributed three goals on the day and Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) scored once and recorded a game-high three assists.

Both teams had chances in the early going but Hartwick goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Alfred keeper Taylor Tarajos kept the game even for nearly nine minutes.

Sisco broke the ice at 21:11 off a Jweid feed and just 2:05 later, Ference made it a 2-0 game with an unassisted tally.

Back-to-back goals from Sisco 1:19 apart extended the Hawks' advantage to four with 16:21 left in the half. Margaret Heinen got one back for Alfred but the Hawks would tally three times in a 3:30 span to get the lead to six. Sisco scored two of the goals in the span and Meagan Wright (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) added one.

The Saxons closed out the first-half scoring with just over four minutes remaining and 'Wick entered the intermission up 7-2.

Goals from Sisco and Rosenberg made it a 9-2 lead for the Hawks early in the second half. The Saxons answered with two of their own in 52 seconds to trim the margin to five.

The Hawks would control the final 20 minutes to pull away as they scored seven of the game's final nine goals. Jweid, Wright, Rosenberg, and Sisco each scored in less than eight minutes to open up a 13-5 edge with 12:02 to play.

Luce, who was relieved of goalkeeping duties by April Hargy (Edgartown, MA/Martha's Vineyard) after 50 minutes of action, took to the field and promptly scored the first goal of her career at 5:08.

After Kaitlyn Button, who led Alfred on the day with three goals, scored Alfred's final goal with 2:55 left, Rosenberg netted her team-best 43rd goal of the season at 2:13. Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) closed out the scoring with a free-position tally with 1:13 left on the clock.

Hartwick forced a season-high 20 caused turnovers in today's game. The Hawks out-shot the Saxons 33-19 and won the draw control battle, 15-9. AU had the edge in ground balls, 35-31.

Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles), who is the Empire 8 Conference leader in caused turnovers, tacked on a game-high six in the game. She also tied a season-high with six ground balls. Sisco also had six ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers. Wright contributed four caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Jweid, the conference leader in draw controls, registered a game-high 10 today. Defender Mandy Van Auken (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) added four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Hawks.

Steph Luce made eight saves in 50 minutes in cage. Hargy stopped a pair of shots and Carla Centanni (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) made one save for 'Wick.

The game marked the final one for seniors Sisco, Morgan Galipeau (Bennington, VT), Kiersten Racela (Latham, NY/Shaker), and Meg Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), who were honored at halftime of today's contest. The quartet combined for 96 goals, 28 assists, 124 points, 264 ground balls, 89 draws, and 116 caused turnovers over their careers.
