Bearcats Down Thiel, Clinch PAC Home Field

GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 26) - Saint Vincent captured home-field advantage throughout next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with an 11-10 win at Thiel.

With the win, the Bearcats end the regular season 6-8, including a 3-0 record against the three other league schools. Thiel drops to 7-7 on the season.

SVC fell behind, 1-0, at the 8:47-mark of the first quarter, but Peter Hronis tied the game mid-way through the period. A goal by Bryce Pasquariello 1:30 later (assisted by Matt Mackey) put SVC ahead, 2-1. The Tomcats tied the game again, 2-2, with the final score of the first quarter at 2:36.

Mackey gave SVC the lead back 1:25 into the second quarter off of a Nick Pensyl assist. Jon Souders extended the lead to 4-2 2:59 later. A Thiel score at the 7:10-mark cut the margin to one, 4-3, but Mackey scored again with 4:20 left in the first half to send SVC into the break ahead, 5-3.

Thiel out-scored SVC, 3-2, in the third quarter, with Brendon Masten and Pensyl scoring for SVC, the later goal that broke a 6-6 tie.

The Tomcats took the lead with the first two goals of the fourth quarter, but Tim Oxenreiter's first of three goals in the period tie the game at the 7:36-mark.

A score by Pensyl with 3:40 to play gave SVC a 9-8 lead, but Thiel responded with a goal eight seconds later to tie the game once again. Oxenreiter then completed the hat trick with a pair of goals 47 seconds apart to give the Bearcats the lead for good, 11-9. A goal with 1:03 left was all Thiel could manage as Saint Vincent held on for the 11-10 win.

Thiel out-shot SVC, 43-31, and won 15 of 24 face-offs. Oxenreiter and Pensyl led the Bearcats with six shots apiece.

Mackey (two goals, two assists) and Oxenreiter (three goals) led all players with four points in the win. Pensyl added three points and Pasquariello had two.

Greg Gonzalez earned the win in goal, making 14 saves in 60 minutes.

SVC will host fourth-seeded Bethany on Wednesday, April 30 at a time to be determined in the PAC Semifinals.
