Ravens Drop Tough Battle to No. 9 Dolphins

Rindge, N.H. - Senior attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored a career-high six goals to lead the ninth-ranked Le Moyne lacrosse team to a 13-10 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sodexo Field.

The Ravens opened the game's scoring 3:11 into the contest as Lauren Beville finished off a pass from Nicole Beliveau.

Le Moyne responded with four goals over a span of 6:27. Graduate student attacker Marley Ciferri (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca/Syracuse) got the Dolphins into the scoring column with an unassisted goal with 24:59 remaining, while Conese followed less than two minutes later with her first goal of the day.

Junior attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) converted a free-position shot with 18:42 to go, while sophomore attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) found the back of the net 10 seconds later after taking a feed from senior midfielder Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt).

The teams then traded goals over the next 11 minutes. After Beville started the stretch with an unassisted goal with 17:34 left, Conese answered 2:16 later by finishing off a feed from Ciferri. Madeline Shopshire tallied her first of six goals in the game 90 seconds later off a pass from Amanda Gauvin, while junior attacker Sam Yaro (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) countered with a free-position goal with 10:39 left. Shopshire then scored twice in a span of 2:16 to get the Ravens within 6-5. The first of the two came on a free-position shot with 9:10 left, while the second was unassisted with 6:54 remaining. Conese answered back 17 seconds later with an unassisted goal.

Freshman midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) gave the Dolphins an 8-5 lead with 3:50 left after receiving a pass from Conese, who finished off the half's scoring 12 seconds later with an unassisted tally.

Franklin Pierce opened the second half with three straight goals over the first 8:18 of the second half to get back within one goal. Megan Raposa scored the first goal with 27:12 left, Shopshire followed with an unassisted goal with 22:37 remaining and then Shopshire converted a free-position shot with 21:42 to play.

The Dolphins answered back with two goals in 76 seconds. Maggie Monnat scored Le Moyne's 10th goal with 20:37 remaining after taking a feed from twin sister Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Claire then put her team up by three with an unassisted goal with 19:21 to play.

The Ravens trimmed their deficit back to two with a pair of goals in 23 seconds. Beliveau found the back of the net with 15:40 left, while Shopshire followed with her last goal of the game.

Conese closed out the game's scoring with two goals 6:04 apart. Her fifth of the game came with 11:15 left, while the goal that set her new career high came with 5:11 remaining.

Junior goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) registered eight saves to earn her fifth win between the pipes for the Dolphins. Julia Coakley recorded seven saves in the loss for the Ravens.

Le Moyne (12-4, 9-3 NE-10), which won five of its last six games after dropping back-to-back games to start the month, finished the regular season in a three-way tie with Saint Anselm and Stonehill for third place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings. Due to the Northeast-10 tiebreakers, Saint Anselm received the third seed, Stonehill the fourth seed and the Dolphins the fifth seed.

Le Moyne will open play in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Wednesday at Stonehill at 7:00 p.m. The Skyhawks won the regular-season match-up, 7-6, in Easton, Massachusetts on April 5. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday at Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m.
