Lourdes Falls to Grand Valley State in CCLA Quarterfinals

Lourdes hung with fifth-ranked Grand Valley State for the opening half on Saturday afternoon before falling to the Lakers 19-5 in the CCLA quarterfinals held in Allendale, Mich.

Goals by Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) and Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on top early 2-0. Lourdes would carry a 2-1 lead into the second quarter before Grand Valley State went on a run, building a 6-2 advantage.

Andrew DiMartini (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) and Bichsel each found the back of the cage before halftime though, pulling Lourdes to within two at 6-4.

Grand Valley State (9-2) came out the second half outscoring the Gray Wolves 13-1 over the final 30 minutes though to advance to next weekend's semifinals. DiMartini tallied a late goal for Lourdes to give him a two-goal contest.

Connor Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) made eight saves for Lourdes in goal as the Gray Wolves were outshot 54-18 for the night.

Brenden Austin led Grand Valley State with five goals while Zack Grusell had a goal and five assists for a six-point day.

Lourdes wraps up its inaugural season with an 11-3 record overall.
