No. 3 Limestone Defeats No. 5 Lindenwood

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Senior attack Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) broke the program single season goal record with her 73rd of the year as No. 3 Limestone (18-0, 6-0 CC) completed an undefeated regular season with a solid 15-7 victory over No. 5 Lindenwood (14-3, 5-0) on Saturday, May 3.

Farrell led the way with four goals and six assists for 10 points and passed Racquel Prager (71) for the program lead in goals in a single season, now with 73. Junior attack Keirsten MacLellan (Glyndon, Md.) delivered career-highs in points and goals with five while senior attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) dished out six assists to run her season point total to 99.

With one more she will become the only player in Limestone lacrosse history, men's or women's, to have two 100 point seasons, having become the first last season. Farrell is five points away from becoming the second player in program history to hit triple digits with her 95 points (73g, 22a).

Senior defender Samantha Cock (Terra Cotta, Ontario, Canada) notched four groundballs, five draw controls and a caused turnover while freshman goalkeeper Sydney Teeter (Auburn, N.Y.) was an ace between the pipes, going the full 60 minutes and allowing just seven goals and making six saves against the No. 5 team in the country. She is now a perfect 18-0 on the season and is the only player in Division II women's lacrosse that can lay claim to that.

Facing their highest ranked regular season foe at Saints Field since a battle with No. 2 Le Moyne last season, the Saints wasted no time in getting on the board early as MacLellan found the back of the net off a pass from Farrell just four minutes in. Jordyn Constance evened it up three minutes later before the clubs alternated the next two scores to wind up at 2-2 by the 12:18 mark.

From there, the Limestone offense and defense would both step it up as they ripped off five straight scores into the beginning of the second half to take a 7-2 lead by 29:20. During that stretch Farrell drilled three of her goals, including the one just before the half that broke the program's single season record of 71.

Maddi Ossello would snap that streak with a goal at 28:20 but it would be just a brief respite as the Saints scored two in a row to make it 9-3. From there the teams would alternate the next seven goals as the Lions drew to within 12-7 with 6:20 to play. The damage was already done, however, and Limestone just added to it in the final minutes as they scored three straight to close out the 15-7 victory.

Melissa Menchella led Lindenwood with four goals along with three groundballs while Melissa Smith and Constance each had a goal and an assist. Ossello had the only other score and Lindsey Palmer and Erin Abbott each had an assist. Smith added two caused turnovers and Christine Hehmeyer went the distance in goal. She allowed all 15 goals and made 11 saves to fall to 14-3 on the year.

Limestone will now await word on who they will face in the upcoming 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament next weekend. As the undisputed top seed in the South Region, the Saints will host the fourth seeded team in the region on Saturday, May 10. Currently that team is league rival No. 9 Pfeiffer.
