Bullets Speed by McDaniel in Centennial Semifinals

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Gettysburg ripped off a season high for goals against McDaniel, as the top two seeds in the Centennial Conference Championship advanced to Sunday's title game.

Sixth-ranked Gettysburg (15-2) set the tone early with six goals in the first 2:15 en route to a 21-11 victory over McDaniel (10-8) in Saturday's first semifinal at Clark Field.

The Bullets raced out to a 2-0 lead as senior Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) scored twice in the game's first 46 seconds. After Samantha Barbeito lit the lamp for the Green Terror, four Gettysburg shots hit the back of the net in a span of 47 seconds.

Sophomore Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) scored nine seconds after junior Mandy Buell's (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) started the run and a score by Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) was followed 11 seconds later by Markiewicz to set the advantage at 6-1 at 27:45.

Gettysburg would gain a 10-goal lead at 13-3 on Buell's third goal of the period at 14:05. McDaniel battled back from the deficit, scoring the final two goals of the opening stanza and the first two of the second half to pull to 13-7.

The Bullets attack was too strong, however, mounting a four-goal run with senior Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) picking up her 200th career point on a free-position goal at 21:21 to regain the 10-goal lead (17-7).

The Green Terror pulled to six with another four-goal run as Monica Parcell made it 17-11 at 14:34. The visitors would not find the back of the net again, while Gettysburg picked up four more goals to set the final score.

Gettysburg finished with the advantage in shots (30-23), ground balls (13-10), and draw controls (19-15). The Bullets were also a perfect 12 of 12 on clear attempts and connected on 7 of 8 free-position shots.

Buell posted five points on four goals and an assist, while Markiewicz also turned in four goals. Kenny finished with three goals and senior Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) tallied two goals and an assist. Kenny also corralled seven draw controls.

Sophomore Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien) chipped in with a goal and an assist, while leading the defense with two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Freshman Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) posted four saves in the first 35 minutes to pick up the win.

Danielle Entrot paced McDaniel with three goals and five assists. Julia Jacobs scored three goals and Maggie Quinn logged two goals and seven draw controls.

Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall will meet in the conference finals for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons. The teams have split the previous 10 meetings with the Bullets winning last year's championship 14-11. Gettysburg won the regular-season meeting with Franklin & Marshall 8-6 on April 23.

Sunday's championship game will begin on Clark Field at 1:00 p.m. The winner will received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Green Terror (10-8) with three goals and five assists.

Mandy Buell and Kelsey Markiewicz netted four goals each to lead the top-seeded and sixth-ranked Bullets (15-2), who will face Franklin & Marshall in Sunday's championship game.
