LVC Rolls by Canton, Will Host ECAC Championship

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Three attackers tallied six or more points as Lebanon Valley rolled over SUNY Canton in the ECAC quarterfinals, 20-11, on Wednesday evening at Arnold Field.

With the win, LVC earns the right to host championship weekend with a doubleheader semifinal round on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The championship game will take place on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Sophomore Sam Boyce led a potent offense with a career-high nine points, consisting of five goals and four assists on the night. Senior Taylor Kruter added a career-high of her own with seven points on three goals and four assists, while junior Anna Pagels chipped in with two goals and four assists for six points.

Canton hung around throughout the first 15 minutes, taking a 4-3 lead with 17:35 to play in the opening half. However, a Boyce goal off a feed from Pagels with 16:49 on the clock sparked a five-goal spurt that put the Valley up, 8-4, with seven minutes to play in the opening 20 minutes.

Canton ended the LVC run with a goal at the 4:18 mark, but the Dutchmen added four more before the half ended and went into the locker room with a comfortable 12-6 lead.

The second stanza was much of the same as LVC flirted with the 10-goal mercy rule a number of times and maintained a healthy lead throughout to finish off the Kangaroos with a final score of 20-11.

Sophomore Shelby Morris earned her 14th win of the year, making seven saves on the night. The Dutchmen led the way in shots, 31-24, and dominated on draws, winning 24 of 31. Canton held a 19-14 edge in ground balls and forced LVC into 15 turnovers compared to just 12 for the visitors.

The Valley will face the winner of fifth-seeded Drew and fourth-seeded Neumann in game one of the semifinal doubleheader on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The second semifinal will include the winner of seventh-seeded Alvernia and second-seeded McDaniel against the winner of sixth-seeded Kean and third-seeded St. Joseph's (N.Y.) at 6:30 p.m, with the championship game slated for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
