Knighthawks Drop Champions Cup Opener at Calgary

(May 24, 2014) ... The Rochester Knighthawks rallied twice but fell just short in a 10-7 loss in Game One of the Champion's Cup Finals. Game Two of the series shifts to Rochester onSaturday, May 31st at 8:00 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.

The Knighthawks clawed back within a goal twice, but a late Calgary run ended the Rochester comeback bid. The K-Hawks were led offensively by Joe Walters (1+3), Cody Jamieson (1+2), Cory Vitarelli and Craig Point (2+0).

Both of Point's goals pulled Rochester to within one. His first of the contest made it 4-3 Calgary as he ripped a shot off the far post and into the net. His second of the game was a quick stick marker at 14:41 of the third to bring the Knighthawks to within one at 7-6.

Rochester goalie Matt Vinc and the Knighthawks' defense shut out the Roughnecks in the third and limited them to just three goals in the fourth. Cody Jamieson notched a goal with 10 seconds left in the contest. Stephen Keogh and Johnny Powless also scored for the Knighthawks, both recording second quarter goals.

Calgary was led by Shawn Evans, who recorded five-points (1+4) on the night, and a 36-save effort from Matt Poulin.
