SYRACUSE, N.Y. Following a successful five-year run at Le Moyne College, head women's lacrosse coach Beth Hewitt has accepted the assistant coach position at Vanderbilt University, an affiliate member of the Big East Conference in women's lacrosse beginning next season.

"I'd like to thank Matt Bassett and Le Moyne College for providing me with an amazing opportunity to be the head coach here for the past five years," said Hewitt. "I would also like to thank all of the student-athletes and coaches that I had the pleasure of working with. Le Moyne is truly a special place and I have had the good fortune to work with some incredible people. I feel so lucky and blessed to have been part of such a successful athletic department that has always supported our women's lacrosse program to compete at the national level. I will definitely look back at my experience here at Le Moyne with great pride in what we were able to accomplish."

In leading the program to a successful transition into Division II, Hewitt guided the Dolphins to a 71-20 (.780) overall record and 43-5 (.895) mark in the Northeast-10 Conference. Le Moyne reached the NCAA Tournament three of the last four seasons and set a program record for wins with 18 in 2011. The Dolphins claimed two regular season titles and the NE-10 Championship in 2013.

"I truly have mixed emotions about Coach Hewitt's announcement," said Matt Bassett, Assistant Vice President & Director of Athletics. "While we couldn't be more excited for the wonderful professional opportunity that Beth has earned, it is a sad day to know Coach Hewitt is moving on. She was and is an immensely talented coach, a gifted leader and mentor, a great friend and colleague. Vanderbilt has just moved its women's lacrosse program forward by leaps and bounds."

Bassett added, "I am fully grateful for the vision and commitment that Beth provided to this program over the past five years. Our emergence as a national contender year in and year out is the product of Coach Hewitt, her staff, and all of her athletes relentless pursuit of excellence and national prominence. She leaves behind a goldmine for our next head coach."

Hewitt will continue to guide the Le Moyne program through the summer months. A nationwide search for the next women's lacrosse head coach will begin immediately.
