Results of the 2014 Vail Lacrosse Shootout – Day 6

It was a sunny and exciting Fourth of July on the sixth day of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout. The Men's and Women's Elite divisions finished their second day. The Men's division completed the quarterfinal round of the tournament after four close games. The Women's Elite division saw an exciting day until it was cut short due to weather. Tomorrow's games will decide who will go to the championships in both divisions.

Men's Elite

Brine Elite 18, Jammin' Salmon 11

Adrenaline Tropics 13, The Big Green Herd 14
The Big Green Herd was able to stay in the game thanks largely to a stellar effort from their goalie, making more than half of his saves. Big Green Herd used teamwork and ball movement to clinch a win with only one person scoring multiple goals.

The Cage Goes All Out 14, Millennium Chiefs 11
Millennium trailed All Out closely for the entire game and was never able to catch up. All Out led by a goal at the end of the first, second, and third quarters and tied Millennium for points during the third.

On The Hop Nation/Lacrossewear 16, The Sharks 15
On The Hop and the Sharks were neck and neck for the majority of this intense quarterfinal. The impressive roster for On The Hop matched with the chemistry of the Sharks made for a great game. The Sharks kept a slight lead for the majority of the game. In the end, it was a quick goal from On The Hop near the end of the fourth that earned them the win.

Team Gutman 5, Rocky Mountain Oysters 18

LOFers 10, Steve French 12
In a riveting end to the day's games at Vail Mountain School, Steve French eked out a win. The LOFers came out strong, but were overtaken by a third quarter scoring spree led by Justin McGinnis. All in all, the game contained a startling amount of heart, joy and patriotism.

Women's Elite

Team STX 14, CRSLax 4

Team Wild 11, ‘Merica 3

Lax Rats 13, CU Club 6
Lax Rats struck first with a goal from #9 Sonorah Vinyard with an assist from #11 Shannon Weakland. Lax Rats controlled the tempo of the game, scoring twice more for a 3-0 lead. It wasn't until #12 Elizabeth Tandler of CU Club took control and scored 2 goals. Lax Rats #1 and #22 connected on a goal with #22 Maggie Mawhinney scoring a solo goal not to long after. CU Club's #9 Meaghan Stretzer had the final goal of the half for a 5-3 score in favor of Lax Rats. The second half started with a score by Lax Rats. CU Club utilized team play and put in 2 goals of their own both assisted making the score 8-5. Lax Rats kicked it up a notch and went on a 5-0 run but #13 Sarah Lautman scored a goal for her team at 3 seconds to end the game.

Team 11, Lakeshore 3
With fierce play ensuing after the face off CRSLax was first on the board. #10 Amanda Shimp and #15 Ashley Mitchelides took turns scoring one after the other with 2 goals apiece. Lakeshore finished the half with 2 goals by #9 and then #8. As play resumed CRSLax got into a rhythm with #15 starting the scoring fury but not before #8 Emily Peters could take one to the house. CRSLax then went on a 5-goal scoring streak with #8 Katelyn Driscoll scoring the last 2 goals. The end score posted CRSLax on top 11-3. The goalie for Lakeshore #0 Abby Bangser ended the game with 12 saves total.
